‘Doesn’t really make sense’: Broncos’ legend in shock as Cobbo axing ‘doesn’t sit well’

Cobbo is reportedly set to be dropped for Saturday’s clash with the Gold Coast Titans amid the Broncos’ horror form slump.

Brisbane have won just once in their last seven games and while Cobbo has looked out of shape and out of form in recent weeks he is not alone.

Hodges, who won a premiership for the Broncos in 2006, was shocked by the ruthless call to drop Cobbo.

“It’s very surprising,” Hodges said on The Late Show with Matty Johns.

“I think to drop someone like Selwyn. At the end of the day, he’s playing on the wing.

“If you’re dropping a winger, it doesn’t really make sense.

“I think he’s been OK in a side that hasn’t really performed.

“I don’t know. It doesn’t really sit well with me to drop someone like that.

“I think probably there’s other blokes that probably need to get dropped first.”

Matty Johns agreed saying,” I thought he’s been good.”

The news of Cobbo’s axing could have repercussions for his future at the club, given he remains unsigned for 2026.

Cobbo has been linked with the Cowboys and the new PNG side in the past, but there would be no shortage of clubs lining up for his services if he parts ways with the Broncos.

Cobbo, who turns 23 today, has scored 48 tries in 80 NRL games for the Broncos since his debut in 2021, but has only scored 11 in the past two seasons.

Equally adept at win, fullback and centre, Cobbo has scored two tries in six Origins for Queensland and played one Test for the Kangaroos in 2023.
